Whenever we release a new issue of The NT Insider, it’s always a big day here at OSR. It’s the culmination of weeks of writing, editing, and proof-reading. We even plan for the release several days in advance, having folks test our links to make sure we get everything right.
There are about 60K subscribers to The NT Insider. Long ago, we learned not to try to host the PDF of the publication ourselves. It’s the 21st century, right? You can just store things in the cloud, and everyone can get to them!
So, earlier today (Tuesday, 28 February 2017), after weeks of preparation, we sent out the tweets and emails that a new issue of The NT Insider is available for download.
We then sat back with satisfaction… and then we discovered the Internet was broken.
It seems that Amazon’s US East Coast data center experienced some sort of hideous problem without an hour of our announcement about The NT Insider. And guess what? We host the PDF of The NT Insider at Amazon’s East Coast data center.
A coincidence? We’ll leave that for you to decide.
All I know is that here at OSR, we’ll be talking for a long while about “the day The NT Insider broke the Internet”!
